DJOYbeat Event Spotlight
Feed Me (with Teeth), Delta Heavy and Zeros @ The Ogden Theater (Wednesday, August 27)
The first signee of Deadmau5‘ esteemed Mau5trap record label, Feed Me’s meteoric rise to fame since his debut in 2008 has paralleled that of mainstream dance music itself. Now touring North America with his full theatrical stage setup, Teeth, Jon Gooch easily sells out large venues whenever he plays. Supporting sets by Delta Heavy and Zeros give partygoers more incentive not to miss the affair.
The Weekend Rundown
Thursday, August 28
NRG Thursdays ft. Maor Levi, Oliver Smith, Sang Dinh and Klutch Beat @ Beta Nightclub
2013 proved to be quite the breakout year for Maor Levi, and along with lauded trance up-and-comer Oliver Smith, the night promises hours of uplifting buildups and crescendos. Local favorite Sang Dinh will open on the main floor, and the artists of Klutch Beat will hold down the Beatport Lounge upstairs as usual. Enter to win tickets here!
The Trifecta Tour ft. DJ Sliink, Green Lantern, TWRK and Vinnie @ The 1up Colfax
Trap/hip-hop heavy hitters DJ Sliink, Green Lantern and TWRK will make a stop in Denver on their nation-spanning Trifecta Tour on the Thursday of Labor Day Weekend, and local bass music mainstay/trap ambassador Vinnie will play the opening set.
Friday, August 29
Bassic Fridays ft. Mt. Eden, Curylone, Shank Aaron and P.U.N.C.H.I.S. @ Beta Nightclub
Auckland, New Zealand duo Mt. Eden (comprised of Jesse Cooper and Harley Rayner) may no longer identify primarily as purveyors of dubstep, but the following they built from 2010-2011 remains. In conjunction with supporting sets by Curlyone and Shank Aaron on the main stage and the DJs of P.U.N.C.H.I.S. upstairs in the Beatport lounge, their name atop the Labor Day Weekend installment of Bassic Fridays looks promising indeed. Oh yeah, and we’re giving away tickets for this event too!
Ardalan, Will Raidle and Action 52 @ Bar Standard
Tehran, Iran-born progressive/tech house DJ/producer and signee of Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird record label, Ardalan will close down the main floor of Bar Standard this Friday. Home Denver has succeeded in drawing a sophisticated, mature crowd to this weekly by billing it with fringe yet up-and-coming talent and this edition is no different. The lineup includes supporting performances by locals Will Raidle and Action 52.
Free Man Music Festival ft. DJ Dara, Jantsen, Joman, Mark Starr, Spettro and OVRDUB residents @ Adi Shakti Kundalini Yoga Center in Boulder, CO
Falling on a few of the dates (August 29-31) of the world-famous Burning Man festival in Nevada, the Third Annual Free Man Festival in Boulder will give the more alternative lifestlye-oriented festivarian crowd an affordable alternative to making the pilgrimage out to the Burn. DJ Dara of Planet of the Drums, long-time Bassnectar collaborator Jantsen, and local progressive/nu-disco favorite Joman top the nearly 50-artist lineup.
Saturday, August 30
Proper Saturdays ft. Amine Edge & Dance, Dragon and Mahesh Presents @ Beta Nightclub
Having played out since he was 16 and become one of the key figures of the recent G-house movement in France, Amine Edge (in conjunction with his relatively new music partner, Dance) can be expected to play a soulful set of house music for this installment of Proper Saturdays. Dragon will hold down the main floor and Mahesh Presents will coordinate entertainment for the Beatport Lounge. And you can enter to win a pair of tickets here!
Poolside and Need & Necessity @ Club Vinyl
The City of Denver may finally be getting burned out on bass music, because the funky deep/tech/disco house grooves of the artists billed at Club Vinyl on Saturdays by promotional company The Hundred have been drawing competitive crowds. Poolside’s set promises to be no different, and local deep house outfit Need & Necessity will bring the vibes as always.
Icicle, Axel Madden, Contrast, and Recon DNB Residents X-TS Emcee and Reckless MC @ Club Vinyl Wreck Room
While the main floor of Club Vinyl is all soulful rhythms and subtle jazz chords the Wreck Room (basement level) will become a dark-and-dirty drum ‘n’ bass dungeon as local outfit Recon DNB will bring out London-based DJ/producer icicle.
Sunday, August 31
Sundays Best ft. Spettro, Shea Delany, Devious D, Ghostplay Jones & Creggers, Sergei Loginov and Broom Dawg @ Bar Standard
Despite being outbid for the space that was formerly Norad Dance Bar, former Beta Nightclub employee Preston Douglas has kept the Norad brand alive through tight-knit afterhours affairs and underground parties. Sundays Best at Bar Standard will carry on this legacy with an all-local lineup of old heads with well-steeped musical prowess.
