DJOYbeat Event Spotlight
Ink Monstr Pool Series @ Exdo Event Center, Sunday, July 13
Local print studio Ink Monstr has put on its esteemed biweekly pool party on the rooftop of the Exdo Event Center for three years now, and by no means are they planning on removing any of its staple attractions. Beats, booze, a 60-foot Slip ‘n Slide, a dunk tank, and live tattoos all play a part in what local magazine Westword recently declared 2014’s best pool party. With O.penVAPE joining Red Bull and Deep Eddy as sponsors—as well as promotional company Souls in Action planning the lineup—this year’s festivities promise not to disappoint. Interestingly enough, the July 13th edition of the series features an almost entirely Boulder, Colorado-based set list. Self-proclaimed “electronic hydro funk” trio Sunsquabi will play a DJ set, as well as electronic/funk/soul/bass duo Proper Motion, bass music DJ/producer duo Strait Flexin, and Brooklyn, New York-based LOLO.

NRG Thursdays ft. GTA, Cognition, T-Rav & Xenology and Klutch Beat @ Beta Nightclub
GTA, a collaboration that Matt Toth and Julio Mejia started in a small apartment in Miami, Florida, exploded into the EDM mainstream in 2012—despite the laid-back duo’s penchant for mixing hip-hop, rock ‘n’ roll and whatever else they happen to be in the mood for into their live sets (read the DJOYbeat interview with GTA here). Still riding off the success of their June track release “Hard House,” a collaboration with Juyen Sebulba that blends elements of electro, big room and trap (but ironically no hard house to speak of), their headlining set at Beta Nightclub ought to bring out nearly every bass head in the city. Local favorites Cognition, T-Rav and Xenology will open up on the main floor, and Denver music collective Klutch Beat will hold down the Beatport Lounge for the duration of the night.
Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation), option4 and Mosis & Pruitt @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom
When Rob Garza founded Washington D.C.-based music collective Thievery Corporation in 1995 with Eric Hilton and a handful of supporting artists, he effectively blended together elements of underground dance music with dub, trip-hop, reggae and bossa nova into a singular, unified sound that forged a lasting legacy known worldwide to this day. Garza continued that legacy by starting a record label, ESL Music, which expanded the influence of his timeless sounds into something of a musical movement. After having relocating to San Fransisco, California, he has focused his solo sets on the underground-chic sounds of deep house and nu-disco, which, combined with his fringe background, will resonate well within the walls of Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Five Points—a venue in which the obscure is celebrated and counterculture is the norm. Supporting local acts option4 and Mosis & Pruitt will play the opening sets for the night.

Bassic Fridays ft. Loudpvck & Victor Niglio, Shank Aaron and P.U.N.C.H.I.S. @ Beta Nightclub
When DJ/Producers Kenny Beats (born Kenneth Blume) and Ryan Marks met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2009 and began making music together, their success came almost overnight. Loudpvck’s hard-hitting trap bangers landed them on the Deckstar Management roster and their remix of “Hold On” by NERVO earned them significant BBC Radio 1 air time, garnering them support from such big names as Skrillex, Zeds Dead, Flosstradamus, Baauer, Adventure Club, Dillon Francis, A-Trak, Carnage and Paper Diamond. Combined with the hyphy rage house anthems of Victor Niglio, an opening main floor set by local DJ Shank Aaron and the Denver-based P.U.N.C.H.I.S. artists upstairs in the Beatport Lounge, their headlining performance will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on Denver’s trap family.
Global Dance Pre-Party – Break: A Night of Bass ft. 2Friendz, Barraza Broz, TSA, Cruz & Mastermash, Paul Brown and Fastlife & Garfield @ The Church
In true Denver rave scene fashion, homegrown market-dominating promotional company Triad Dragons will preclude the festivities of next weekend’s Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks Amphitheater with its own official pre-party at The Church for this weekend’s installment of Global Fridays. In the first few years that Triad Dragons threw the massive over a decade ago they failed to break even, but over time it grew to become an internationally recognized brand—a success story that many Coloradans are willing to spend two weekends celebrating. In addition to free ticket giveaways for Global Dance Festival, the pre-party will feature several of the same dancers as the festival itself, as well as DJ sets from such up-and-coming local talent as 2Friendz, Barraza Broz, TSA, Cruz & Mastermash, Paul Brown and Fastlife & Garfield.
Full Moon Festival ft. All-Local DJ Lineup @ Rancho Del Rio
Between festivals like Sonic Bloom and Telluride Bluegrass Festival, it’s obvious that Colorado party people like to mix their outdoorsy side with their love of music. This month’s full moon doesn’t fall on Friday the 13th, but it does fall on the second night of the Full Moon Festival, a campground party at the Rancho Del Rio resort along the Colorado River in Bond, Colorado (roughly a 2.5-hour drive from Denver). Still new enough to slip under the mainstream radar but expanding fast enough to have become an EDM event by which many local scenesters swear, the two-day party will feature DJ sets by such local acts as Criminal Hearings, Deciprocal, Hence, NewNumberTwo, Nick Payne, Scott Everett, Tess, Crix Madine, Ten and Tracer, OffTheSky, Radere, Ductape, Born, and many more.

Proper Saturdays ft. Pan-Pot, Dragon and Mahesh Presents @ Beta Nightclub
Since 2005, Berlin-based techno/house duo Pan-Pot (consisting of Tassilo Ippenberg and Thomas Benedix) have earned the respect of dance music veterans with their ethereal, introspective progressions and back-to-basics sound engineering. With support by Beta Nightclub main floor resident DJ Dragon, and Mahesh Presents holding down the Beatport Lounge upstairs, Pan-Pot promises to bring the old school back to Beta Nightclub in a big way, so be prepared to talk shop with the old heads at this installment of Proper Saturdays.
Altitude Anonymous ft. Lee Burridge, Tennis, H.O.S.H., Daniel Dubb, Droog and Little Mike @ Copper Mountain Resort
After two years of planning, Denver-based promotional company Afterhours Anonymous finally managed to organize their own outdoor party—and with Lee Burridge as the headliner, you could say they did a decent job. A dance music veteran since the early ’90s, Burridge was largely responsible for building the Hong Kong club scene before becoming a world-renowned DJ, and having been involved in the movement since the acid house era qualifies him to carry this party at the scenic Copper Mountain Resort (roughly an hour from Denver) home. Saturday sets include Keepers, Oona Dahl, Greg Eversoul, DJ Tennis, Adam Ross, Daniel Dubb and H.O.S.H., and the Sunday schedule remains TBA, as separate tickets for a limited capacity event will be sold for that day.
Sunday, June 15
303 Magazine Pool Party ft. Celebrity DJ Lindsay Luv @ Breakers Resort
303 Magazine has certainly made an imprint on the Denver nightlife scene through its involvement with the local fashion community, and it’s yearly pool series has become an iconic celebration of the publication’s success. Called “One of the US’ best pool parties” by Maxim Magazine, the bash is complete with cabanas, a killer view, fashion shows, music, and Denver’s most beautiful people. In this edition, Celebrity DJ Lindsay Luv (one of the DJs of the official Coachella Pool Party last year) will hold down the music for the entire function.
