Miami’s Damaged Goods has been hard at work for half a decade. Recently, his remixes for the likes of Chromeo, Pharrell and countless others have gotten him notice from the mainstream press. To go along with his work, he has received support from A-Trak, Steve Angello and several others. This time around, Damaged Goods is taking on Kiesza’s deep house track “Hideaway.” DG’s version takes “Hideaway” from the deep lounges to the big room. With this high-octane remix it’s clear that DG is hitting his mark. This is a track that starts with some fire and doesn’t stop until it’s uncontrollably raging.
Fans of the original should know that this is the kind of remix that doesn’t leave much of the original intact. Damaged Goods said that the vocals on “Hideaway” had him “immediately captured.” Working off of that, DG brought a blistering sound that should have even the heaviest feet moving out on the floor. It should come as no surprise that this is coming out at the beginning of festival season. This is the kind of track you expect to hear in festival mixes. Once the triple bass drop comes in, expect a sea of shuffling to break out. It’s equal parts dirty bass and polished sounds.
DG set out to counter the original track’s sexy vibe with an aggressive, dirty sound for his version. He definitely achieved his goal with the drop. The rest of the track feels like a sexy jam from the vocals mixed with a big room beat. In a time where so many tracks and genres are starting to sound alike it’s good to hear some refreshing big room.
