Horizon Festival at Bansko Ski Resort, Bulgaria

The Horizon Festival takes place in Bansko, Bulgaria for a long weekend in early March. This is a snow-sport based event that takes over nine of the bar and club venues in the local area, giving the hip crowd a chance to get drunk in the evening and try a their feet at snowboarding and skiing during the sunny daytimes. Still a relatively young event, expect a good slice of local culture with your party here.

Musically, the policy here is focussed on the beats and breaks side of the fence with cool Dubstep and European Hip Hop leading the way. If you’re not too tired from whizzing down the 70km of cool ski-runs then you can enjoy the sound well into the early hours with plenty of venues, including the special secret parties at some hotels, continuing till 6am. Expect a with it and cool vibe throughout that’s always on the right side of welcoming.

One of the best things about the Horizon Festival is that once you’ve dealt with the travel costs this is a very inexpensive festival with drinks in the local venues costing only a fraction of the UK prices. There are also many local restaurants that serve good, traditional Bulgarian food if you are prepared to take a little run away from the fast food venues in the high street. This is definitely a party that’s going to grow in the future as its one event that does a good old job of combining two different worlds.
