One More Time: A Tribute To Daft Punk @ Webster Hall, Friday July 4
What are you up to this 4th of July? Well, if it’s not Daft Punk, at least there’s One More Time. The electronic Daft Punk cover producers return to New York for another summer stop that will be looking to hit the sound and vibe of a regular Daft Punk show. Tribute shows can always be dicey. Especially when it’s a tribute to an iconic sounding group. Eh, what the hell, it’s still Daft Punk. Can’t go wrong there.
The Weekend Rundown
Thursday, July 3
Steve Powers @ Lavo
Head to Lavo for some of New York’s own progressive house. Also, head to Lavo early for some Italian dinner. What? You didn’t know that. Fun fact. Another fun fact, Steve Powers puts on awesome sets. See him to kick the weekend off right.
Evol Intent @ Stage 48 NYC
DnB fans rejoice, Evol Intent is here to make your weekend. The trio make sure you get your tempo variety when they’re on the decks. If you’re not familiar with Stage 48, it’s a lot like the TARDIS from Doctor Who. The four-story venue is much bigger on the inside than the outside. Get ready to lose your minds on the massive dancefloor.
Blackbird Blackbird @ Mercury Lounge
For a taste of poptronica, head to the Lower East Side’s Mercury Lounge. Blackbird Blackbird’s newest track off Tangerine Sky should be the perfect soundtrack for a laid back summer night in New York.
Also Consider: Oscar G @ Cielo, Thugfucker/Ten Walls (Live)/DJ Tennis with No Regular Play/Jef K/Nicolas Matar @ Output, Matthew Dekay, Bedouin at Verboten, Synthicide @ Bossa Nova Civic Club
Friday, July 4
Danny Tenaglia @ Output
The story may be getting worn out but the result is never old, Output hosts another solid night of house. This time, it’s club legend Danny Tenaglia. Danny’s entire career has been founded on the experience that happens at his show. Now’s the time to experience it for yourself, if you’re still in town. This place kind of clears out on the Fourth.
Treasure Fingers with Solidisco and Codes @ Cielo
This could be one of the most moving spots all weekend. With Treasure Fingers headlining, expect nothing but the funkiest house beats to get asses shaking. Solidisco will be there to bring the old meets new school funkiness. If you don’t have plans for the Fourth yet, consider Cielo.
Guy Gerber @ Marquee
One of New York’s most well-known venues goes deep with Guy Gerber. Remember two things about Marquee, look good and don’t expect any V.I.P. If you’re against mixing it up on the floor, you may want to miss out on some solid deep house.
Ian Friday & Carlos Mena @ Drom
Libation’s parties have always gained praise as some of the best for its focus on the dancers and the floor. Be part of the scene at Drom for the “global soul experience.” Drom is one of the spots for an experience in the city. Head over for a show meets lounge type of night.
Benoit + Sergio/Eric Volta/Justin Miller/Jade/Corey Baker/Cause: Effect @ Verboten
Verboten is packed with all sorts of sounds for the Fourth. If you and some friends are up in the air on what to see it’s a safe bet that Verobten will have you covered. Different kinds of house, tech and other genres will be present. Should be a good time.
Also Consider: Robert Lux, Evan Michael, Ben Steidel @ Cameo Gallery, Stafford Brothers – Independence Day, Friday July 4 @ Pacha, Haus presents July 4th Party @ Haus
Saturday, July 5
Hot Since 82 and Kevin Melito @ The Well
Hot Since 82 has been riding a wave solid UK house for quite a while now. As he comes back stateside he partners with Sankeys New York for a night at The Well in Brooklyn. Tickets are almost sold out with the fourth and final wave of tickets left. Grab them while you can.
Borgore @ Governors Beach Club
Borgore is the type of artist you either love or don’t. Those that don’t can skip this one. For those loving the bootyful bangers from Borgore should already have their tickets to the Beach Club. It may be a slight stretch, but there’s no other place in the city that could hold a summer set from Borgore.
Audiofly and Surprise Guests @ Sankeys New York
Sankeys is pulling double duty in the city as they host Spanish duo Audiofly and their special guests. The house keeps coming with a splash of tech. If the Fourth got you too beat up to recover for tonight check out Sankeys. Audiofly is sure to bring it but far from the strength of a Borgore show.
“Last Day on Earth” Boat Party with Sasha, Carl Craig and more @ Verboten/Hornblower Infinity yacht
Verboten goes on the high seas, well, seas of New York City for the “Last Day on Earth.” If my last day consisted of Sasha on the open water with the sun blazing I’d be okay with the end of days coming because not much is going to top that. Good luck grabbing tickets. This one is sold out.
Jamie Jones and David Berrie @ Output
Output brings a great blend danceable house from the UK and US on Saturday. Jamie Jones has a vibe that will be nearly impossible to move to, while David Berrie keeps it going with his own blend. The Panther Room should be kicking off just as well in case you need a change of rooms throughout the night.
Also Consider: Ursula 1000 @ Slake, Sebastian Brandt @ Chrystie 141, Hex Hector and Jason Ojeda @ Cielo, Jeffrey Tonnesen @ Marquee, Digital Lab @ Lavo, Louie Vega on the Coney Island Boardwalk @ Place To Beach Cantina
Sunday, July 6
Verboten Brunch: Rob Garza [Thievery Corporation], Kate Simko and more at Verboten
After a day on the seas it’s time to head back to Verboten for some afternoon brunch. Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation will be providing the deep house while London’s Kate Simko handles the electronic. As always, entry is free before 8 p.m. Not a bad way to close out the weekend.
Victor Calderone: Extended Set with Chus + Ceballos, Nathan Barato and Mike Frade @ Governors Beach Club
If the Beach Club isn’t properly shredded from yesterday’s Borgore show, Brooklyn’s own Victor Calderone will be there to do the job. With an extended set and a solid guestlist, Sunday could be a late entrant into the best show of the weekend category.
Sundays on The Roof with Dave Aju, James Flavour and Clint Stewart @ Output
An afternoon on the roof always helps close out the weekend. Output opens up shop at 2 pm with some eclectic sounds from the trio. Be sure to check out Clint Stewart’s mix that includes tribal beats, pure techno and stellar progressions throughout.
Also Consider: Kolekti 001 @ The Paper Box, Mister Sunday with Eamon Harkin @ Industry City
