DJOYbeat Spotlight
Super You&Me with Laidback Luke, Dyro and more @ Governor’s Beach Club, Sunday, June 15
Laidback Luke and Co. are back for another edition of Super You&Me. This time, he’s bringing Dyro as well as a slew of other awesome artists. Starting at 4 p.m., the event will go until Midnight. What’s awesome about these shows is that there’s still time to head over to another venue and catch a few more hours of music. If you’re ready to turn down after the show, that’s your call, too. It wouldn’t be a surprise. This should be packed with tons energy.
Be sure to check out the Governor’s Beach Club list of restricted items. Rumors are that they can get strict from time to time.
The Weekend Rundown
Thursday, June 12
Arty @ Cielo
Quality venues need quality artists, and this is what is going down on Thursday night. Most of you already know the wonder that is Arty. However, if you don’t, highly consider going to Cielo. The intimate setting of Cielo should make for an interesting setting with Arty’s sound. This could be one of the best shows of the weekend in New York City.
Phutureprimitive @ Highline Ballroom
Looking for some IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) to start the weekend off? Then, make the Highline Ballroom your starting point for the weekend. Phutureprimitive’s signature style of loving, blissful IDM has been brewing for years. Also known as Rain, he’s been at it since the ’90s.
Moon Boots, Perseus, Plastic Plates @ Verboten
A good deal of funky house music awaits Verboten on Thursday night. The trio of acts will be bringing their modified versions of funky music. We especially suggest the baby maker, music maker Perseus, but all three are probably going to wow the hell out of you.
Also Consider: Fixed presents: Ewan Pearson, JDH & Dave P @ Output, Neon Indian (DJ Set), Chrome Sparks (DJ Set), Lemonade (DJ Set) @ Glasslands Gallery, Deep Disco @ Babel Lounge.
Friday, June 13
Girls & Boys presents Dusky @ Webster Hall
Deep house at its finest right here. Every time these guys come across the pond to New York things get ridiculous. Last year, they turned the now defunct Sullivan Room into a room that felt like everyone fell into the pool three times over before dancing. It’s gonna be something. Webster Hall could be an interesting venue for them. Since deep house is this year’s trap, the room should be filled just fine.
Martin Solveig @ Pacha
If you asked to name artists perfect for Pacha NYC, Martin Solveig would be one of the first choices. His variety of big-room sounds should create a wild night for the packed Pacha house. With his hits at his disposal, Martin Solveig should be a top choice for anyone OK with the packed room vibe.
Soup NYC presents Derrick Carter @ Cielo
Derrick Carter’s mixes are some of the most infectious in music today. He blends house, acid jazz, nu disco and tons of other genres to create a killer vibe. Like Solveig, Derrick Carter’s sound is perfect for Cielo’s room. This should be an awesome night.
Black Boots @ Slake
Featured all over the web and print, Black Boots bring their original sound to the east coast. The Las Vegas duo aim to seamlessly integrate electronic and indie vocals. Some have said they are creating a movement with their sound. Maybe they’ll recruit a few more followers at Slake.
Lee Foss, Scarlett Etienne and more @ Output
If Cielo is Manhattan’s destination for quality house music, then Output has to be Brooklyn’s. The U.K.’s acts of Lee and Scarlett roll into Brooklyn with a deeper house sound that is sure to please the fans. There will be top notch house going on all over this city come Friday night!
Also Consider: Afterwork Latin Grooves Happy Hour feat. Yudelquis @ Sounds of Brazil/ S.O.B.’s, Quantic @ Drom, Nickodemus @ Drom, Derek Plaslaiko 8 Hour set @ Trans Pecos, Klingande @ Glasslands Gallery, DJ Stickybuds @ Olivia, Worthy / Christian Martin / City Living Showcase @ Verboten, Sleepy & Boo and Friends with Jean Pierre @ Marquee.
Saturday, June 14
Bixel Boys @ Verboten
California duo Ian and Rob come together to bring you underground tunes for the big rooms. Be prepared for heavy hitting bass, cutting electronic and a few other surprises on Saturday night. Now that Verboten has an established home in Brooklyn, there is another home for quality underground like Bixel Boys to come through.
Len Faki @ Output
One of techno’s top demanded names graces the decks at Output this Saturday night. For more than a decade, Len’s sound has been crafted by the incredible Berlin music scene that’s around him. If you’re still up in the air for plans this weekend go to Output.
TECHNOIR: Opiuo @ Slake
Funky beats are bound to happen when Opiuo takes over Slake’s decks. Australia has been producing some solid producers. If you haven’t already, add Opiuo to that list. If you’re looking for a mix of chill, funky and danceable rhythms head to Slake on Saturday.
Oscar G @ Pacha
A self professed addict to drums, Oscar G will be bringing some thunder on Saturday. He also calls himself “A slave to the dark beat.” So be ready for that. With his varying style of house, Pacha will be bumping with good vibes.
Tedd Patterson @ Cielo
Cielo and house music. It just works so well together. Tedd’s house sound should lend itself perfectly to Cielo’s room. The floor should be alive and moving come Saturday night. It looks like house is running New York City this weekend.
Also Consider: Noahstradamus @ Santos Party House, Tiki Disco on The Roof with Lloydski/ Andy Pry/ Eli Escobar @ Output, Leon Switch, Toast MC, more @ Paperbox, Percussion Lab x Turrbotax @ Glasslands Gallery, Syn Cole @ Webster Hall, Serge Devant, Grass is Greener, Max Layn @ Sankeys NYC.
Sunday, June 15
Touch of Class Showcase: Ray Zuniga / Jonny Cruz / Pattern Drama @ Verboten
Verboten’s noon brunch is back. House from near and far will be on display this week. Germany based Jonny Cruz will be working alongside Brooklyn’s Pattern Drama for an afternoon of house and deep house.
The Wolf/ Midnight Magic @ Output
Sunday’s on the Roof is back for another edition. This afternoon rooftop affair kicks off at 2 p.m. Brooklyn’s Midnight Magic will be spinning a set of funky, chilled beats. If you’re looking for a spot in the heart of Brooklyn’s Sunday hangover haven, Output is where to be.
Nickodemus @ Le Bain At The Standard
If you’re looking to steer off from the weekend of classic and deep house, check out Nickodemus. His electronic acid house should mix things up from the rest of the sets you’ve been checking out all weekend. Adding Latin dance on top should create a lively environment for all in attendance.
Also Consider: Zvuloon Dub System @ Sounds of Brazil/ S.O.B.’s, Mister Sunday @ Industry City, Sunset Discotheque Feat. Valissa Yoe, Eli Escobar, and the Carry Nation @ Rooftop 48.
