About El Rey Theater

Few venues maintain such a long and popular legacy entertaining the people of Albuquerque than the historic El Rey Theater. This cozy theater is where you’ll find a schedule of some of the most talented musicians around as they entertain audiences night after night. Its simple yet comfortable design provides a great atmosphere for live music, and guests have come from all around New Mexico to see the legendary performers who have played here.

Located in Downtown Albuquerque, the El Rey Theater has a proud history of serving the community. The theater was originally a cinema and has operated as a paint store, lamp store, several bars, and a grocery store before becoming a music venue in 1981. The El Rey Theater scheduled greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James before closing in 1991, only to be restored to its former glory in 2001. Since that time, the theater has hosted popular mainstream acts like Weezer, Yo La Tengo, and The Shins, as well as many acclaimed local musicians.

These performers are always on the event schedule at El Rey Theater, so check the calendar above and head downtown to buy tickets for a great night of live music.
