About First Avenue & 7th St Entry

The history behind First Avenue & 7th Street Entry spans back more than forty years, and all began with a Greyhound station. When the new owners bought the out-of-business Greyhound facility in 1970, their first show was a 2-set evening with the now-famous rocker Joe Cocker.

While the venue was popular with locals from the first night it was opened, it wasn’t until the mid ‘80s that it became famous around the world, thanks to the artist formerly known as Prince, who used the venue as a set for his blockbuster hit movie Purple Rain.

In the ‘90s it started to be named by magazines like Rolling Stone and Time as one of the best in the country, and it’s around this time that it began increasing its focus on DJs, house music, and VIP lounges. Today you can stop by any day of the week to enjoy the latest mixing or a live band.

The venue is primarily 21+, though some shows are 18+ but require a legal parent or guardian to be present with those under 21. The capacity is 2,500 and though there are several booths in the back, the space is primarily standing-room only. Check out their website to learn about winning access to booths, or buying a yearly access pass.
