About Club Gretchen

Getting its name form a character from Goethe’s “Faust”, Gretchen is one of the special places to visit if your heart is beating to electronic music. Managed by two legendary members of the local Drum’n’Bass scene, the DJ line-up is impressive with big names from the respected homes of Ninja Tunes, Ed Banger and Boysnoize. From Electro, Electronica, House, Dubstep, Glitch (yes, it’s still around) to HipHop and Experimental, there are surely some favorite tunes to dance to. If you fancy the likes of Quantic, DJ Questlove (Roots), Stereo MC’s, Shadow Dancer, Netsky or Mr. Scruff, make sure to catch one of the many and awesome live gigs at the Gretchen.

The club is set in a beautiful building from the nineteenth century, which served as the stables of Queen Victoria’s Prussian 1st Guards Dragoon Regiment.  Majestic looking vaulted ceilings and delicate concrete columns stand in stark contrast to the minimalistic interior, which seems a tad cold but charming alike – a match made in heaven as per style of music and definitely falling into the category of “uniqueness”. Let aside the successful implementation of coolness via projectors ‘tattooing’ the walls.

The venue is a huge space with plenty of seating and room to dance, as is the large bar (which you might be able to dance on as well), run by great and light speed moving bar staff. If you’re here to make contact with other humans, the most successful way to do so is attempting to reach the bar through hordes of hysterical mid-twenties when the place is packed – no doubts you’ll be making plenty of friends, probably even for life.
