About Lido

The only thing this club might have in common with the original Italian term of lido = beach, might be the airy “chillout” outdoor area keeping you warm in wintertime, thanks to the invention of outdoor heating and rather unfortunate for Planet Earth.

Other than that it does not resemble its “golden-necklace-namesake” in the slightest way as it has loyally been dedicated to “Sex & Drugs & Rock’n’Roll” in typical jeans and leather jacket style. Reaching back into the 70s, it was then that the former cinema of the 50s/60s with its remnants of the interior detailing, a salute to a passing time when art nouveau was at its best, was signed over to the devil. The devil must’ve been limping on his leg as the wild 70s proved too much for the walls of the then called “Westside”, which banned it to live a lonely existence for almost 3 decades. After its rescue in 2006, the Lido became the districts Rock-Indie-Electro-Pop, or at times even Hard & Heavy couch for music lovers of these genres.

Supported by great sound balance, regular events such as the “Paris Connection” or “Silent Disco”, it takes turns with healthy looking riders from bands such as Maximo Park, Beatsteaks and Cocorosie.

The venue itself is spacious and big enough to hold what feels like a healthy and actually nicely mixed crowd of humanity, without losing the intimacy of a smaller venue, where you feel close enough to the band.

Depending on the event of the night, prices are fair with an average entry of 6 Euros -compared to other clubs in town this almost seems near a steal!
