In Bremen’s charming district “Neustadt,” lined with beautiful historical Bremer-type houses, you’ll find one of the towns best clubs. Converted from an old movie theatre, Modernes hosts a variety of events such as “Charts to Classics,” “Disco Disco” (a mix of polyester sound and Saturday Night Fever including dance performances), the slightly trendier “Skate Aid,” or the “90’s Revival” night.  Theme nights tells tales of rather unforgettable fashion statements such as Buffalo boots, tramp stamps and fluorescent colors, and they bring back hymns from talent such as Snap, Dr. Alban, La Bouche or Culture Beat.

On the more alternative side, the venue also presents a variety of live gigs as colorful as Sweden’s indie rock boys Friska Viljor, Brooklyn’s funk & soul darlings Sharon Jones & the Daptones, Enter Shikari’s metalcore or L.A.’s Kid Ink with his smooth hip-hop beats–all of whom have visited in the past.

The crowd is as mixed as you would expect from a club offering such diversity. If you can make it through the crowds, you might even get the opportunity of witnessing the centerpiece of the place, which is the domed roof that can be opened to let in some much-needed air towards the end of the night.
