About OttobarThe Ottobar opened in downtown Baltimore September 1997 at 203 east Davis St. in the former Chambers nightclub. With a very small capacity, the place offered an intimate showroom for occasional performance art and live music. Unfortunately, this original version of the Ottobar did not make it and closed its doors on November 17, 2001.
However, during the exact same month, Ottobar opened reopened at 2549 North Howard Avenue. The new site was significantly bigger and offered a far cleaner and hospitable atmosphere.
This new location has been host to many national artists including: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Drive-By Truckers, Dinosaur Jr, TELEVISION On The Radio, The Breeders, Maroon 5, Supersuckers, Quiet Riot, KRS-ONE, Jonathan Richman, David Cross, Michael Ian Black, At The Drive In, Atmosphere, The Melvins, Coheed And Cambria, Bouncing Souls, Animal Collective and naturally, many-many more.
Furthermore, many local artists have performed at Ottobar including: Lake Trout, Glenmont Popes, Fishnet Stalkers, Thrushes, Celebration, Pony-tail, Misery Index, Prince Charming Chazz and much more. Other specific nights include: “Underground” Dance Party, Pet Wedding, Butcher Knife Throwing Contest, Spelling Bee, Ottobar Boys and Girls Choir, Book Burning For Peace and more.
Business Hours:
Mon-Tue 9:30 pm – 2 am
Wed-Fri 6 pm – 2 am
Sat-Sun 9 pm – 2 am
What to Expect:
Ottobar is considered a very inexpensive venue with a Divey/Hipster/Casual ambiance. Past guests will tell you that it is a good place to go dancing with an average noise level.
Online reviews say that this is a great small venue for concerts. However, like many other spots, the outside is not very aesthetically pleasing but the inside is very nice. Also, Ottobar be somewhat difficult to find and the parking situation is not great as only street parking is available.
Moreover, while the Ottobar on the smaller side it is an organized layout and not confusing at all to navigate to the bathrooms or to the bar.
The best nights to hit Ottobar are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
