About Rex TheaterThe Rex Theater has been an essential part of Pittsburgh’s Southside for more than a century. Originally opened in 1905 as a vaudeville theater, it’s had many names and functions over the years: an independent movie theater, barber school, and even a popcorn factory.
It’s been The Rex Theater for over a decade, and is now a respected concert venue with a full bar. Recent renovations to the auditorium, artist areas and lobby have revived the classic architecture and vintage feel, and huge upgrades to the lighting and sound system has ensured fans have a fantastic experience at any show.
The bar caters to virtually any taste, starting with pops and energy drinks, moving up to mixed drinks and cocktails, and features dozens of domestic and imported craft beers alongside classics like 16 ounce cans of PBR. Free parking is available about six blocks away the Giant Eagle, or patrons can spend $15 for valet parking.
Recent events have included movie premiers, bands like Rusted Root, Jupiter Vinyl, the Moth Storyslam, Keys N Krates, and burlesque performers. Most shows are all ages, though certain acts are 21 and up.
