About Sunshine Theater

Albuquerque’s Sunshine Building was built in 1924, has been designated as an Historical Landmark, and is home to the Sunshine Theater. This building was originally a 920-seat movie theater, in fact it was the first movie palace in Albuquerque, and the portion previously used as a movie theater has been transformed into a spectacular live music venue that’s hosted acts like Snoop Dogg and EDM giant Deadmau5.

Up to 1,000 partiers can fill this venue, which is entirely general admission. There are several cocktail tables scattered throughout the space, but most patrons will be standing throughout festivities at the Sunshine Theater. If getting a seat is a top priority, then it’s wise to show up early as the tables are first come first serve.

This venue has won several awards, like the Best Live Music Venue in 2012 from the UNM Daily Lobo, and the Best Place to Hear Live Music from CitySearch. There are only around five shows a month here, so if you’re craving a throw-back venue with plenty of personality, keep an eye on the ever-changing roster to pick a show that will get you moving.
