About Tanzwirtschaft Kaffee Burger

Away from the hype of the trendier locations of Berlin, Kaffee Burger keeps offering the legendary “Russendisko” as well as Indie and at times even Electro parties.

This club started out as a restaurant in 1890 and went through several interesting transformations at the hands of the Burger family, until it developed into a scene bar for intellectuals, political dissidents and wannabe defectors in the 70s. In 1999, new owners took over the family business, revamped it and turned it into a piece of Berlin’s cultural history.

Wrapped in velour wallpaper, dead animal heads on the walls, wooden boarding and retro lighting, the club has two areas. The bar area with very legitimate prices is littered with rounded booths and lows tables, complimented by a simple cocktail menu. The main floor, where Russendisko, live acts and Poetry Slams happen, is shattered in black and white tiles, scattered tables, an old style bar and a fair-sized dancefloor, which is usually filled with people from all walks of life who don’t have to be a star to grace the floor.

The ambiance is a solid mix of grandma’s living room and “East-algia”, and the generally alternative crowd is not as young as in some other clubs, somewhere between 25-45. No one seems to be “too cool for school” – it all seems more to be about having fun on the chosen night out.

Trash meets “East-algia” – Kaffee Burger is an original, a one of a kind.
