About The Cedar Cultural Center

The Cedar Cultural Center, often simply called The Cedar, is not your typical venue. Most are run by companies looking to make a profit, and willing to bring in whatever acts will bring in the most cash. However, The Cedar is a non-profit enterprise, run by a group of committed volunteers. The result? An eclectic mix of events designed exclusively to bring unique culture to Minneapolis.

You’ll find this venue nestled in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, and on any given night you might find global roots, indie, jazz, blues, folk, experimental, or event film screenings, spoken word performances, comedy acts, dance-offs, or community events. The building itself was built in 1948 and was once home to a vintage theater. The dazzling marquee still stands, and draws crowds from around the city.

Drinks are reasonably priced, with the average charge for a beer at $4 – $5 and an excellent selection. There are plenty of non-alcoholic drinks for those underage or who choose not to imbibe, including their famous Cedar Chai, which brings patrons back time and again.
