About The Shrine

In Southside Chicago is a club known as The Shrine with two distinct personalities. One entrance will take you to the half of this nightclub where the dance club vibe is DJ driven with a stage that is shared by both local and national talent. It bumps hip hop, neo-soul and all kinds of dance music. The other entrance will take you to a half reserved for having a few cocktails and share a couple laughs with friends on Tuesdays and Wednesday when its colleague, the club, is closed. Both sides agree on a strict dress code of either business casual or club wear. If you feel like hosting your own event at The Shrine, you can expect the VIP treatment and a section of the nightclub called, “The Throne.”

Opened in 2009 by Joe Russo (owner of Funky Buddha Lounge and Sinibar), The Shrine was a hotspot from the beginning. Its name is meant to pay homage to the famous club of the same name that was once a landmark club in Lagos, Nigeria before the government there took it out.

If you love choice hip hop and dance music and don’t mind paying a $20 cover and a premium for drinks, the soon-to-be legendary Shrine deserves a look.
