I have been an Armin van Buuren super-fan since my father first introduced me to trance back in the ’90s, so I tried my best to eliminate as much bias as I could when listening to his most recent A State Of Trance compilation. After running through the tunes, though, I am convinced that even an EDM novice would find much to rave about when delving into the album. A State Of Trance at Ushuaïa, Ibiza 2014 is the culmination of all the magic he has woven throughout his sets this summer every Thursday at the Ushuaïa Beach Hotel. Vaulting, melodic and uplifting, the double mix compilation takes listeners on a breathtaking journey across high points and more pensive meanderings, in true Armin van Buuren fashion.
The compilation features two CDs with a full tracklist each, highlighting leading names in electronic dance music as well as Armin’s own picks of emerging talent. Armin’s remix of Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” (featured in Disney’s animated feature film Frozen) earns a golden spot in the mix, as does his new track “Hystereo” and hits from names such as Paul Oakenfold, Aly & Fila, Cosmic Gate, Omnia, Mark Sixma and Armin’s Gaia moniker.
