North Coast Music Festival @ Union Park (August 29 to 31)

Once again, Union Park comes alive for yet another larger than life music festival in downtown Chicago. This year makes North Coast Music Festival’s fifth anniversary, and they’re pulling out all the stops for music fans. North Coast always has a diverse lineup, and this year is no different. Labor Day weekend is going to be pretty bland in other cities, because the huge acts are going to be at North Coast. Headliners for the fest include Bassnectar, STS9, Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi, Alesso and Nicky Romero. There’s something in the lineup for every type of music lover who loves to rage. Check out the after parties in this week’s weekend rundown.

This pre-party with the sexy stylings of Chet Faker is bound to heat things up in a fever. Concord will be grooving and sweating, the perfect start to your Labor Day Weekend.

The first night after North Coast is one where people go wild. Need an after to keep rocking? Future Rock and Orchard Lounge is bound to be a unique start to the weekend ahead. These two groups are extremely talented and innovative. You haven’t heard anything like them, and their passion for creation shines. Check out House of Blues for something creative.

Keys N Krates & M4SONIC @ Bottom Lounge

If you didn’t do enough jumping around at North Coast, Keys N Krates and M4SONIC should definitely cure that. These hard-hitting bass enthusiasts feed into the crowd in the best way possible. The energy at Bottom Lounge will seep into the streets of Chicago for this one. If you’re not ready for the party to end, this is the after to head to.

What So Not & DJ Funk @ The Mid

The Mid never fails to bring the biggest names in music to Chicago. What So Not and DJ Funk in one night proves that. DJ Funk has been spinning grooves since the ’90s, and he hasn’t missed a beat yet. What So Not brings the best of hip-hop, house, and other genres creating a unique sound that we can’t get enough of. For some cool grooves, hit up this one.

Saturday, August 30

Nicky Romero & Nathan Scott @ The Mid

Sometimes you need a little big room in your life. Sometimes you just have to rage. Nicky Romero and Nathan Scott bring you exactly what you’re looking for. With North Coast in full swing, The Mid promises to hold it down for this after party.

Adventure Club & Milk n’ Cookies @ Bottom Lounge

Dubstep lovers unite and prosper with this after party at Bottom Lounge. Adventure Club is bound to make it filthy, making booties shake all over the dancefloor. With the sexy twins Milk n’ Cookies holding it down, too, the night is bound to exhaust you in the best way possible.

Grandtheft & Midnight Conspiracy @ Evil Olive

If you like it a little darker and a little louder, head to the Evil Olive Saturday night for Grandtheft and Midnight Conspiracy. Midnight Conspiracy like to really turn it up, and they have a great time doing it. Grandtheft has a talent like few others, and it shows. Get grimy at Evil Olive.

Sunday August 31

The Floozies & Manic Focus @ Concord Music Hall

By Sunday, some are exhausted, but those are the people who don’t belong at music festivals. Head to Concord Music Hall Sunday night to close out the festival with some funky grooves. The Floozies bring a lot to the table, with influences from all over the spectrum. Manic Focus will also be holding it down for ultimate dance-ability.

Dada Life @ The Mid

If you’re not ready to slow down after North Coast, Dada Life is the event to keep the party going. Fun Fact: These guys have spent all of their money on bananas and champagne. They have created a franchise and at one point, an entire compound. Their music is hard-hitting,  their fans are crazy, and frankly so are they. Hit up this party for the ultimate close out.

STS9 @ House of Blues

Some call them a jam band, others realize they are far beyond that. Veteran musicians STS9 have been headlining festivals and selling out shows since before North Coast was even a thought. This event is no different, it’s already sold out. If you already have a ticket to this one, congrats, you’re in for a treat. These guys jam hard, while bringing on the beats, a great way to close out the weekend. There you have it, folks. Each night will be a struggle to decide where to go. However, with conflicting after parties comes more incentive to see everything you can during festival hours. North Coast brings a little bit of everything, and the afters bring a lot of bass.

There you have it, folks. Labor Day weekend in Chicago will not disappoint. North Coast’s 5th year should be one to remember, even if you black out. If you didn’t find the right party for you, visit our events pages for the complete listing.
