A Chicago house music legend since time immemorial, Bad Boy Bill is slated to grace the decks of Beta Nightclub for this week’s installment of NRG Thursdays. A veteran whose experience ranges every shade of the house spectrum, he will be accompanied on the main floor by openers Cognition & T-Rav and Sergio Santana, as well as the artists of Klutch Beat.

The Weekend Rundown

Thursday, August 14

The Club Scouts ft. Michael Menert and Mux Mool @ The 1up Colfax

One of the producers and band-mates of Pretty Lights (who himself played Red Rocks Amphitheater last weekend), Michael Menert teams up with Super Best Records co-signee Mux Mool, an experimental breaks artist from Minneapolis who relocated to Denver.

Friday, August 15

Bassic Fridays ft. Genetix & Coffi, Sub.mission Residents and P.U.N.C.H.I.S. @ Beta Nightclub

Matt Sharp and Rich Dawson of Genetix began making drum ‘n’ bass in 2006, but their accolades came from “Squid Attack,” their 2010 foray into dubstep. Coffi’s a relative newcomer to the bass music scene, albeit a lauded one. Warming up the main stage decks are the Sub.mission resident DJs in a tag-team set, while the P.U.N.C.H.I.S. roster holds down the Beatport Lounge.

Detroit Swindle and Need &Necessity @ Bar Standard

Ironically named Amsterdam duo Detroit Swindle delight in bringing deep house flavor to the ears of dance music enthusiasts around the world. Considering the mature crowd at Bar Standard’s Home Denver-sponsored Fridays, the audience will appreciate their sound. Hometown talent Need & Necessity will provide additional entertainment.

Mr. Scruff & Peanut Butter Wolf and Mikey Thunder @ Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom

Two quirky, long-time beatmakers, UK-based Mr. Scruff and San Jose, California-based Peanut Butter Wolf will team up this Friday for a three-hour session at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Five Points, Colorado, where the world of popular music stands on its head for a few hours each night. Hometown Talent Mikey Thunder will open.

Downlink, Nova 9, Dirty Little Thieves, Pwnage Method and DJ Diablo @ Rawkus

Downlink’s controversy with Mimosa may well have brought him more fans and supporters as the latter received the bulk of the publicity, and the waves he and his bandmates in Destroid have made undoubtedly help in that regard. A birthday celebration for Colorado Springs promotional company Surreal Laser, the evening promises bass-heavy beats in major doses.

Saturday, August 16

Proper Saturdays ft. Behrouz, Cognition & T-Rav and Mahesh Presents @ Beta Nightclub

Born in Miami and based out of San Francisco, Behrouz has perfected his progressive house sound for over two decades. Cognition & T-Rav will spark off the main floor festivities, and Mahesh Presents will host a special birthday set by local artist Illien along with others.

Motez and Keepers @ Club Vinyl

From Australian hit maker Motez’ garage-influenced funky house originals to his wildly popular remixes, his set ought to bring a lot of feet through the door – especially considering that ever since The Hundred has been hosting these events, a new life has been breathed into Club Vinyl. Local talent Keepers will kick off the festivities.

Hit the Floor ft. Breathe Carolina, Lea Luna, 2Friendz, Mastermash and more @ Casselman’s Bar and Venue

After their 2011 hit single, “Blackout,” Denver-based electronic rock band Breathe Carolina makes a perfect headliner for this all-local lineup as they’ve toured the country time and again. Since she’s been busy making moves on the West Coast, Lea Luna will still bring many heads even after her set at the 303 Magazine Pool Series last weekend as well.

2Deep2Sleep ft. Jaceo & Vedic, bTsunami and a Surprise Guest DJ @ Fusion Factory

For party people seeking an afterhours experience outside the ordinary, the second installment of SeifhauS productions’ 2Deep2Sleep provides a late, late night of deep, tech, progressive and funky house for a burner-heavy crowd with discerning tastes. “I wanna throw parties for mature people who are there for the music,” professed SeifhauS founder Seif Bendiff in a brief DJOYbeat interview. Unlike any other after-hours spot in town, Fusion Factory will stay bumping with cutting-edge music until well after sunrise if past events are any indication.
