Denver Weekend Preview July 24 to July 27, 2014

DJOYbeat Spotlight

Grum @ Bar Standard, July 25

Despite Beta Nightclub’s stranglehold on Denver’s club scene, Bar Standard has had a decent run lately; even while Global Dance Festival was going on last weekend, they managed to pack the venue for Treasure Fingers‘ set. Dance music enthusiasts with refined tastes ought to rejoice in their choice of entertainment for this Friday as Leeds-based progressive house DJ/producer Grum will headline the evening.

The Weekend Rundown

Thursday, July 24

NRG Thursdays ft. Sultan & Ned Shepard, Cognition & T-Rav, and Klutch Beat @ Beta Nightclub

Considering his debut on the Global Underground album series nearly two decades ago, Sultan’s tenure in the world of EDM gives his ethereal brand of progressive house credentials enough to grace every pair of ears at Beta Nightcub – and teaming up with Ned Shepard ten years ago only drives the point home.

That’s Sick Fan Appreciation Rave  @ Rainbow Falls Mountain

From Thursday, July 24 through Saturday, July 26, Denver-based DJ collective That’s Sick Entertainment will be hosting a camping party with a 100 percent to-be-announced lineup. As the name implies, the event will be free for all attendees and takes place on a private ranch in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Friday, July 25

Bassic Fridays ft. Kill ParisCoult-45 & Lotus Drops and P.U.N.C.H.I.S. @ Beta Nightclub

Between touring and releasing an EP on OWSLA last year, bass music DJ/producer Kill Paris has made some major moves since his days of gigging in Boulder, Colorado – but his origins in the Centennial State make for a packed house at Beta this Friday night.

Global Fridays ft. DJTrajikk and Ecotek @ The Church Nightclub

Billed as the “Post-Global Dance Festival Cooldown,” this edition of Global Fridays at The Church features performances by local staples DJ Trajikk and Ecotek as well as opening sets by Audio X, Mastermash, Social Legacy and Pandemic.

Zomboy, Cookie Monsta and EPTIC @ The Ogden Theater

With his tracks making their way into the live sets of such dubstep tastemakers as Skrillex, Flux Pavilion and Modestep, Zomboy ought to bring a lot of feet through the doors of the Ogden Theater considering Denver’s long-time love affair with bass music.

Saturday, July 26

Proper Saturdays ft. Danny Tenaglia and Marshall Monica@ Beta Nightclub

It’s just a progressive house kind of weekend at Beta, apparently. Danny Tenaglia’s been playing records since before many contemporary EDM aficionados were born, though, and Marshall Monica holds more national-level clout than a lot of other locals.

Goldroom, ACTION52 and Sylent EFX @ Club Vinyl

Los Angeles-based Goldroom’s tropically warm nu-disco has garnered him attention from MTV, BBC Radio 1 and Pitchfork as well as a global tour that most artists coming off of their breakout year would kill for.

Sinistarr, Goreteks and Shoebox @ DADA Art Bar

As Dada Art Bar is a relatively new space near the north side of LoDo, Recon DnB’s takeover of the space may well endow it with a lasting drum and bass/jungle following in the months to follow.

Why We Groove ft. Lexi Fey, Hydra, Diabolic and Pnut @ Adi Shakti Kundalini Yoga Center of Boulder

Another Colorado campground party, Why We Groove will feature a house/techno stage as well as a bass stage at a scenic yoga center in Boulder, Colorado, and boasts a long list of local acts.

Sunday, July 27

Summer Rooftop Patio Sessions 2014 ft. Nutmeg @ Bar Standard

Colorado-based Nutmeg started playing records over two decades ago, and has received countless accolades from Westword Magazine. Every fourth Sunday he plays this Afterhours Anonymous weekly.
