The 101 on Electric Zoo’s Vinyl Room, Sunday School Grove

Since the festival debuted in 2009, underground acts have continuously found a home at the Electric Zoo‘s Sunday School Grove. Known for featuring less mainstream techno and house styles, the Grove got its name from the idea that it would be “schooling” mainstream fans by introducing them to some of the most well-respected names in the underground scene, such as Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox and a host of “unsung underground heroes,” according to the Wall Street Journal. This year’s Sunday School Grove will see an expansion like never before, with the new addition of a second stage, the aptly named Vinyl Only. The Grove will be used in a custom designed wood and mirrored Spiegeltent, while the Vinyl Only stage will offer a more intimate club environment dedicated to celebrating the lost art of mixing with proper turntables and the forgotten beauty of rich, warm analog. Frank & Tony, Behrouz and Josh Wink will serve as hosts of the Vinyl Only stage over the course of the three day event.

Techno and house fans attending the festival this labor day weekend should plan to head over to Brooklyn’s Output nightclub for the official Sunday School Grove after parties. Those who won’t be able to make it out to the Big Apple can still enjoy the music by tuning in to Mad Event’s recently launched Sunday School Sessions podcast, which brings fans a weekly selection of mixes curated by the likes of Sasha, Andrea Oliva, Joel Mull, Carlo Lio, Alan Fitzpatrick and an exclusive two-hour extended mix from the one and only Joseph Capriati.
