About MEMETIC Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition

“MANITOBA ELECTRONIC MUSIC EXHIBITION OF TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION & CREATIVITY”

MEMETIC was created in 2009 by Festival Director Nathan Zahn. MEMETIC is made up of a collective of members with backgrounds in electronic music production, audio experimentation, video projection performances, multi-media installations, event organization, artist management, graphic design, photography, special event marketing, web development and record label management.

MEMETIC is dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audio-visual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields, with the intent of providing an outlet of initiation and discovery for its audiences. MEMETIC has a specific focus on Manitoban musicians and artists and also creates links to international networks promoting electronic music artists from Manitoba to the rest of the World. MEMETIC’s workshops and clinics intend to create a sonic space that can support innovation in new electronic music and digital art. We also provide free educational workshops to young people through community outreach and hosting special guest presenters during the annual MEME festival.

In June of 2010 MEMETIC produced Winnipeg’s first-ever free electronic music concert in the heart of Winnipeg’s Exchange District. This initiative stemmed from MEMETIC’s desire to reach vast new audiences and to inaugurate The Cube, a new internationally renowned architectural landmark. Local media hailed this event as the most successful electronic music event in Manitoba’s history. Exponential growth in attendance followed in 2011 and 2012 bringing over 10,000 people to the free outdoor concerts at The Cube creating whole new audiences for this forward thinking event. The MEME 2014 edition will gather over 60 artists and professionals from 5 different countries to contribute to 4 days of events, workshops and performances throughout various indoor and outdoor venues in downtown Winnipeg.
