Los Angeles Weekend Preview: July 10 to 14, 2014

DJOYbeat Event Spotlight

Monday Night Social ft. Anthony Attalla, Luis Miolaro, and Steve Prior @ Sound Nightclub (Monday, July 14)

If you have never seen Incorrect Music’s Anthony Attalla spin, you had better make sure you are on your game for Monday Night Social at Sound in Hollywood. Every fiber of his being radiates the most vivacious energy and his music is equally as enchanting as his personality. Spinning the best in house music and already having a massive following in LA from his incredible sunrise sets on the Groove Cruise, the floor will be packed with dance-a-holics and music fiends. Mister Attalla doesn’t grace L.A. with his presence often (as of now), so this is our definitely do not miss show of the upcoming week. You won’t be sorry.

Thursday, July 10

Discotek ft. Stylus, AJ Mora, and Jaime Narvaez @ The Cosmo

Thursday night disco is being dominated by Discotek at the intimate and plush Cosmo Lounge on Hollywood Blvd. Consistently booking prime weekly talent and drawing a loyal and knowledgeable crowd, this Thursday night follows suit bringing in Stylus (Thee-O and Robtronik), along with AJ Mora and Discotek creator, Jaime Narvaez. Even the most devout employee has been known to be held hostage on this dancefloor, so plan ahead with some Red Bull for the a.m., put your party panties on, and let’s dance.

Encore ft. Margot LOX, Sonder, and Dylan Kimmeth @ 31ten Lounge (Santa Monica, CA)

Looking for somewhere to go after the Santa Monica Pier Summer Concert Series, or maybe you just want to get some good house music by the beach? This is a great new event that will last the duration of the summer (for now). Brought to you by StopBreatheBump, Encore will be the Pier after-party for lovers of good dance music. The first installment features Margot Lox, Sonder, and Dylan Kimmeth and is already shaping up to be the Westside’s weekly Thursday night house haven.

Friday, July 11

The Do LaB pres. Dimond Saints, Astronautica, and Quinn Kyle @ King King

Always bringing original, high quality, scintillating electronic music to the table, you may have (aka should have) seen the Do LaB stage at Coachella and/or Lightning in a Bottle. Come get deep at King King in Hollywood with Dimond Saints, a new partnership that “defies categorization” and drips with soulful uniqueness. If you have a chance to check out their Soundcloud, we highly recommend it. They did a trippy fantastic track with One Republic called “Counting Stars,” and their dope debut jam, “We Diamonds,” is stellar as well. Edrina Martinez, aka Astronautica, has a sensual R&B/downtempo/dance fusion sound going on that we are diggin’, and Quinn Kyle flirts with the electronic and hip hop boundaries quite nicely. This is the kind of event for those who like to keep their minds open and blown.

Framework ft. Lee Foss with Anabel Englund @ Sound Nightclub

Lee Foss, Co-Founder of Hot Creations with Jamie Jones, comes to Framework Fridays at Sound Nightclub. This will be a profound night for underground house and techno lovers, as Lee Foss is one of the best. Matching him up with the pristine Funktion 1 system and the industrial, underground decor of Sound Nightclub is every dance music lover’s dream. Anabel Englund will also be joining him. Her vocals on “Reverse Skydiving” are unmistakable and we are excited for this unique opportunity. Another life-changing night at Sound is in the making.

Saturday, July 12

Elation Pool Party ft. Shanto and Contessa @ The Sofitel Hotel

Pool party + palm trees + deep house music = euphoria. Got it? There’s nothing we like more than a Saturday day party to give us an excuse to abuse our never-ending supply of Viamin D and “hair of the dog” to kick that TGIF hangover to the curb. Some of L.A.’s most underrated local talent, Shanto and Contessa, will be manning the decks, except for the fact that Jamie Krause, aka Contessa, is a femme fatale with wicked mixing skills and a music arsenal that could bring a tear to your eye. (Or, maybe that is the sun… don’t forget those sunglasses.)

Inception ft. MK, Psychemagik, Oscar G, Beckwith, and Adam Auburn @ Exchange LA

Holy loaded lineup, Batman! Inception does it again. If you haven’t heard of MK, we highly suggest you climb out of that rock you’re hiding under, hop on Soundcloud and get ready for an amazing night in music. When stacking the roster with the UK duo, Psychemagik, that DJ Mag described as “fucking brilliant,” as well as Oscar G, and Beckwith… it’s no wonder that Exchange LA extended the hours until 6 a.m. This is the place to be Saturday night into Sunday morning. We feel sorry for our feet already.

Sunday, July 13

World Cup Finals Party ft. Lavelle Dupree and Dean Mason @ Ocean Bar (Hermosa Beach, CA)

For all you soccer fans, come and get your party on for the biggest game of the World Cup as Argentina and Germany go toe-to-toe for the title. You can watch the game and then celebrate (or drown your sorrows) to the beats of Lavelle Dupree and Dean Mason at Ocean Bar in Hermosa. This bad-ass little beach spot boast ocean views, delicious food, and good music. Getcha’ some.

SoundsLike Sundays ft. Trent Cantrelle, Omid 16B, and Marshall Monica @ Room 86

Just like you always go home at the end of your weekend adventures, we always end up on the terrace for SoundsLike with Trent Cantrelle. Our favorite spot for dancing and ending your weekend on the best note (and bassline) features Omid 16B and Marshall Monica this week. Hailing from Britain, Omid Nourizadeh is regarded as one of the early pioneers of the tech house movement, is a well respected producer, and label boss at Sex on Wax and aLOLa Recordings. He will be joined by Beta Nightclub Resident, Marshall Monica, and SoundsLike resident and label boss, Trent Cantrelle. Meet you at the terrace. Don’t forget your dancing shoes.
