Despite his young age, given his ground-breaking success as a producer in the electronic dance music arena, it only makes sense that starting a label would seem like the logical next step for Mat Zo. The British-born and now Los Angeles-based producer has spent years planning for the launch of his own imprint, called Mad Zoo, which took place at the start of this week on August 11. What helps differentiate Mad Zoo from most other labels out there is something fans will be very happy to hear: every Mad Zoo release will be made available to listeners for free on Soundcloud for the first week alongside each release.
“I’ve always wanted a quicker outlet for my music, so a while ago I decided to release some of my music for free on Soundcloud. The only problem with this is if I want to license the track out, or even put the track on YouTube, there has to be a label structure around it,” said label boss Mat Zo. “The plans for Mad Zoo had been underway for years, so I decided to use the venture as a new way for me to release music quickly, yet still have infrastructure around it. I will still continue to work with other labels in the conventional way.”
The first official Mad Zoo releases, “Get Down 2 Get Up” featuring The Knocks, and the new electro breaks gem “Left to Right” are out now and available for free download.
