Miami Weekend Preview: July 10 – July 13

DJOYbeat Event Spotlight

Nicole Moudaber (Terrace Room) and Ambivalent (Loft) @ Space, Saturday, July 12

Her summer tour is already in full swing, and if you’ve every seen her perform live or tuned in to one of her weekly “In the MOOD” radio sessions, then you know exactly why we’ve chosen the Nicole Moudaber’s return to Space’s legendary Terrace Room as our Miami Event Spotlight for the week. Hands down one of our favorite places to see the Queen in action, Space never fails to provide the perfect atmosphere and audience for a night full of  dark tech-y beats and an abundance of funk. A true night of techno, this Saturday Space will also showcase Berlin-based (and New York-bred) Minus man, Ambivalent, in their warehouse-style Loft. If you show up before midnight, you’ll get to enjoy reduced cover for the evening and give your feet a good warm up in before the show really gets started. Space cadets, get ready to move.

The Weekend Rundown

Thursday, July 10

Cultivate presents Nitin @ Treehouse

We know from past parties that we can always trust the team at Cultivate to sniff out the best talent, and this week is no different: from promoting to producing to running his own record store and label, Ontario native Nitin has done it all in the music industry. Some would even call him one of the “founding fathers” of Canada’s electronic music scene. If you’re looking to start your weekend off with a more low-key, feel-good vibe, you’re going to want to stop by Treehouse. If you’ve been there, well then… you already know.

Just Dance presents Nick Hogan @ LIV

There’s truth to the saying that these days, “everybody’s a DJ.” Whether or not they’re any good at it is a whole other matter entirely. We invite you to find out for yourself this Thursday as Nick Hogan (yes, that’s Hulk Hogan’s son) takes over the decks at LIV. Who knows? Maybe he’s the next Hardwell. At least you can say you saw Nick Hogan headline at one of the country’s most exclusive venues.

LINK and Miami Rebels present Marcel Fengler @ Trade

To put it in the simplest terms, being able to call yourself a resident at Berghain means you know what you’re doing. Being able to say you’ve been a resident at Berlin’s most legendary techno club since day means the entire techno community knows what you’re doing and is hanging on every beat. All we can say is, we’re lucky to be welcoming one of brightest gems of the underground to our very own Trade this Thursday. If you think you’ve heard bass before this performance, you’re only fooling yourself.

Jessie Andrews and JBZ @ Bardot

Much like Nitin, Jessie Andrews has also worn many hats, although her’s have been of a decidedly different nature. Among the many titles she’s held are pornographic actress, model, jewelry designer and club DJ. If you missed her in Portrait of a Call Girl, you won’t want to miss her this Thursday when she takes over the decks at one of Miami’s most intimate and beloved venues, Bardot.

Loco Dice @ The Kennedy (Tampa)

Yes, we know its not really Miami, but Loco Dice has been a favorite here in the Magic City for so long that we’re willing to bet I-75 will be full of 305 locals making the journey to go see Loco this Thursday. If you really want to sweat on the dance floor, rally up a group of friends and carpool up to the Kennedy. It’s not Space, but if Loco Dice is headlining we’re absolutely positive its going to be a hell of a show.

LINK and Miami Rebels present Matthew Dear powered by Beck’s Access @ Trade

We can’t say we’ve heard very much about the booming techno and house scene in Texas, but don’t judge artist Matthew Dear for his hometown. The Kingsville native’s sound is pure Detroit techno, which we suppose makes sense given the fact that he spent most of his life living there. If his name still isn’t any bells, you may be more familiar with his 1999 debut single, “Hands Up For Detroit.” Yes, that’s the man. If you know a thing or two about music, you’re going to want to head over to Trade this Friday night where LINK and Miami Rebels will be hosting the heavyweight and his multi-pieced live band.

Mind Against and Aquarius Heaven @ Treehouse

Berlin based electronic duo Mind Against may only have a few years on the scene under their belts, but they’ve already earned the support of artists such as WhoMadeWho, PillowTalk, Art Department and Avatism. Their friend and fellow German producer Brian Brewster (aka Aquarius Heaven) has also been celebrated as one of the scenes top artists to watch. This Friday, Treehouse will be welcoming both acts for a night that will undoubtedly keep the lights low, the bass bumping and the focus heavy on the dance floor.

Big Syphe and Arlette Carlin @ Wall Lounge

SKAM Artists’ Big Syphe’s story exemplifies the phrase “perfect timing.” A chance conversation with Pitbull’s mom at a concert led to a longstanding friendship and the opportunity to go on the road with Pit as his DJ for two years of international touring. Since then, the Los Angeles born artist has performed around the world and produced music for some of the music industry’s biggest names. This Friday, he’s joined behind the decks by the beautiful Arlette Carlin at the cozy and opulent Wall Lounge at the W Hotel on South Beach.

Super Fridays @ Mansion

If smoke guns, lasers, and soaring synths are exactly the kind of Friday night you’re looking for, Mansion’s Super Fridays are the perfect way to kick off your weekend in Miami.

Gold Panda with Gooddroid @ Bardot

If you’ve never heard Gold Panda before, the best way we can describe him is  a futuristic hybrid of techno and glitch-pop. If you’re not sure what exactly that means, we’ll just say its really good thought-provoking, body-rocking music. Check him out for yourself this Friday at Miami’s much loved music room, Bardot.

Saturday, July 12

Audien @ Mansion

He may be young, but don’t let his appearance fool you—the 21-year-old producer has brought some of the most reputable dance floors in the world. Catch his set at Mansion this Saturday if you’re in the mood for a full-sensory experience.

LINK and Miami Rebels present Behrouz and Hector @ #Underground Story

Behrouz is another one of those artists who will always have the heart of Miami. The San Franciscan has called many places home, including the Yoshitoshi label family and the decks at DC10’s Circoloco parties in Ibiza. This Saturday, however, he’ll be touching down at Story to give revelers what’s bound to be a gorgeous set of deep and techno. Also performing is Guadalajara-born DJ and producer Hector, who’s dancefloor-oriented style has carved out a reputation for him in clubs around the world.

Damaged Goods @ Space (Main Room)

Miami loves Damaged Goods, and with his recently released remix of Kiesza’s “Hideaway” still generating buzz, its safe to say the world is interested. This Saturday Damaged will be taking over Space’s Main Room for a night we expect will be high energy from start to finish.

Lloydski (Tiki Disco) with DZA @ Bardot

A true native New Yorker, Lloydski is one of the Big Apple’s most in-demand artists. A legend at NYC’s Tiki Disco, Night People at Le Bain and and the Standar, Lloydski is bringing his character, charisma and one-of-a-kind sound to Miami’s Bardot.

EC Twins @ Club Adore

These guys are gorgeous, and if you haven’t seen them in real life all you have to do is look for the massive cloud of ladies that usually follows them around before and after shows. More than just two pretty faces, though, the English-born producers (and fraternal twins) Marc and Allister will be taking over Miami’s newest nightclub, the opulent Club Adore.

KNR Hospitality presents Erik Hagleton and Chicco Secci @ Wall Lounge

Parisian-born DJ and producer Erik Hagleton refers to himself as a groove composer extraordinaire, and we couldn’t agree more. A member of Bob Sinclar’s Yellow Productions crew, he’s known for his dynamic blend of house and tech house and is notorious for taking dance parties to the next level.

Helena @ Passion Nightclub

Not too long ago, the Australian-born beauty Helena graced us with her talent at Space’s Terrace Room. This Saturday, we’re welcoming her back to the Sunshine State. If you missed her at Space (or just didn’t get enough of her), catch her on the decks this weekend at Passion Nightclub at the Seminole Hard Rock.

 Tim Mason @ LIV

Among EDM aficionados and big room fans, nothing beats a Saturday night at LIV. This weekend, the super club welcomes fearless British pioneer, Tim Mason. The Size Records heavyweight has worked his magic in nearly every big room of significance around the world. From the maestro, you can expect a set that’s rich in melody and high energy. LIV will take care of the rest.

Wayne and Woods @ Mokai

We love Mokai’s intimate, ultra luxe atmosphere, and we think it’s the perfect place to have a super glam night without feeling like you’re at a festival. This weekend, Mokai will play host to Swedish producers Wayne and Woods, two of the most promising cross-switching members of the Size Records family.

Sandro Silva @ Story

Dutch producer Sandro Silva has earned the respect of leading names in dance music around the world for his masterful work in the studio. Party goers, on the other hand, love him for what he’s capable of doing on the dance floor. Tasteful in his music selection, conscious of set flow and knowledgeable about what really gets a party going, Silva will be a perfect way to end your weekend at Story.

Bastille Day Celebration @ Nikki Beach

You don’t have to be French to join in the Bastille Day celebrations this Sunday—Nikki Beach on Sundays is a tradition in its own right here on The Beach. You can bank on can can dancers, musicians, and plenty of delectable French fare.
