Miami Weekend Preview: July 31 to August 3, 2014

DJOYbeat Event Spotlight

Martin Garrix @ LIV, Monday, August 4

Okay, so technically its not the “weekend” (depends on whether you’re on Miami time or real time), but we’re highlighting Martin Garrix’s special performance at LIV on Monday because its bound to be a show to remember. Those boyish good looks, those electrifying bass drops, that killer hangover you’re almost guaranteed the following morning – let’s just say we hope you’re on vacation and don’t have to show up to work in the morning.

Thursday, July 31

Just Dance presents R3hab @ LIV

Everybody needs a little R3hab every now and then; head on over to LIV to get your fix of hard hitting beats and awe inspiring lights this Thursday at LIV. So what if it’s only Thursday? There’s never any reason not start your weekend off with a literal “bang.”

DTF Thursdays presents Chris Valencia, Ess & Emm @ SET

DTF Thursdays at SET have a way of making even the most conservative patron loosen up. For a more intimate alternative to LIV’s massive dance floor, head to SET, where Opium Group resident Chris Valencia will be tearing down the house along with fellow local legend Ess & Emm.

Cultivate presents Inxec @ Treehouse

A favorite with Crosstown Rebels, Cocoon, Leftroom, Culprit and Get Physical (just to name a few), “King of the Underground” Inxec will be taking up residency at our beloved Treehouse this Thursday night. Expect a very interesting (and eclectic) musical journey.

Sub Zero @ Wall Lounge

Born and raised in Paris, Olivier Amiel (aka Sub Z3ro) has been leaving his mark on South Beach for just under a decade, and yes, he does owe his namesake to the famous character form the beloved ’90s arcade game, Mortal Kombat. He will be bringing his versatile, crowd shaking blend of hip-hop and dance music to the W Hotel’s industry-oriented Wall Lounge this Thursday.

LINK and Miami Rebels present HOBO @ Trade

Supported by local legends Danyelino and Ms. Mada, Canadian producer HOBO will be taking over the decks at Trade this Thursday. Like his name implies, HOBO is known as a musical wanderer; expect a set full of unexpected and unique sounds on this very special end-of-the-month party.

Homebase @ Do Not Sit On The Furniture

One of Miami’s favorite venues brings us a brand new weekly fittingly called Homebase, geared toward growing the local music community and delivering utter audio satisfaction. Leave the formal wear at home; the only things you need to bring are friends and good vibes.

Jon Hopkins with Santiago Caballero and Uchi @ Bardot

Jon Hopkins calls himself an artistic keyboardist and “sonic technician,” and we’d probably have to agree that his penchant for ambient soundscapes with their unexpected sprinklings of acid techno and classical influences are best described as sonic journeys of discovery for listeners lucky enough to catch him in the act. Come discovery the magic for yourself at Bardot this Thursday, where he’ll be joined by local favorites Santiago Caballero and Uchi.

Friday, August 1

Thomas Gold @ Story

We’re very excited to announce the return of French electro house maestro Thomas Gold to Story this Friday as part of his summer tour. After the very recent release of his wildly successful hit “Beast,” we are pretty confident the crowd will be wild at this one (was that too cheesy?).

LINK and Miami Rebels presents Claptone @ Trade

Little is known about Claptone, other than that he prefers to keep himself shrouded in mystery. If curiosity about the character behind the Venetian “bird of death'” mask isn’t enough to draw you to a live performance, his music should be. Supported by Thunderpony, the German producer will be bringing his signature understated groove to Trade this Friday. If you need a great way to ring in the new month with some feel-good tunes and a room full of the coolest music lovers you’ll ever encounter on the beach, this is your party. We promise you we’re not exaggerating – check out his “Clapcast” below if you want a preview of the magic you can expect.
