New York City Weekend Preview: August 14 to August 17, 2014

DJOYbeat Spotlight

Andrew Rayel @ Pacha (Friday, August 15)

The man from Moldova is set to blow the roof off Pacha with some blistering progressive trance. Finding your harmony doesn’t always happen at Pacha, but with Andrew’s Find Your Harmony sets in hand it may happen on Friday. The crowds at Pacha can be hit and miss at times, but trance tends to bring out a big crowd. Also, if you’re heading to Pacha and you see a dude with a mondo beard, yo.

The Weekend Rundown

Thursday, August 14

Bang Tidy with Elon & Lukaz on The Roof @ Output

“Bang Tidy, the alternative shopping experience, is the Paris-meets-New York extravaganza event.” That’s their words, not mine. The roof should be an interesting night. As always with Output, it’s not for everyone. As for the music, Elon can put down some pretty interesting deeper house. Check it out.

Nervous Records & Dance.Here.Now Event with Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen @ Cielo

Some veteran club music opens up Cielo’s weekend. Teddy Douglas and DJ Spen have been at it for some time, much like some of Cielo’s crowd. The vibe in there is almost always fun. Check some throwbacks this Thursday night.

Zeitgeist: Moon Boots and Stadenco [Jen + Joel’s Bday] @ Verboten

Space-like sounds are Moon Boots’ bread and butter. Throw in some disco, funky deep and some chilled grooves and you have a Moon Boots kind of sound. Head to Verboten to check it out. No word on if party hats will be available.

Also Consider: Audiolism @ TBA Brooklyn

Friday, August 15

More Fridays presents Bart B More @ Slake

The Dutch take over Slake Friday night. Well, a Dutch person takes over Slake on Friday night. Progressive house will be on display in all its glory. Who knew the Dutch did progressive house, right? Bart’s brand should have you feeling a little like you’re in a video game. That should be enough to get you there.

BehrouzDoc MartinOxia, Patrick Grooves with Konrad Black and Naveen G @ Output

Deep, deep. Deep and deep. That’s where Output is going Friday night. Throw in some tech for flavor and you should be set. Konrad Black and Naveen G will be holding down the Panther Room. Both rooms are solid spots.

Verboten + PTN: Nick Curly, Santé, Just Be [Bushwacka!], Eelke Kleijn and Omid 16B @ Verboten

Brooklyn and house. They go together so often they might as well just say they’re dating. Nick Curly’s brand of 8bit house and Just Be’s style of tech house should make for a fun night on its own. Add in some other incredible sets and you’ve got a quality night.

Girls & Boys presents Popof @ Webster Hall

Tech, house and electro should be on display as France’s Popof takes the stage. The Webster vibe is varying at times. This crowd should make for a solid time.

The M Machine @ Melrose Ballroom

This. Right. Here. This! If you don’t “F”s with The M Machine, you better listen to some obscure Russian dance groups to make up for the awesome deficiency you’re on! The Bay-area trio don’t define themselves by style or convention. Get to Melrose to dance your ass off while losing your mind the proper way.

Saturday, August 16

All Night Long 009 DJ Sprinkles @ Cameo Gallery

The Belgian takes over Cameo Gallery for what is sure to be an interesting night of deep house. While it may be called deep, the tempo will certainly have you feeling otherwise at times. It’s some original deep house. Let’s enjoy some of that, right?

Sterac aka Steve Rachmad, The Advent & Lenny Posso @ Output

A legend in the game is touching down at Output. For over 25 years, Steve Rachmad has been helping carve out dance music’s path. See this legendary Dutch DJ and the rest of this solid lineup on Saturday.

Vanilla Ace with Special Guest Lane 8 @ Glasslands Gallery

Some nu-disco from London’s Vanilla Ace should be good enough to get a night going. On top of that, here comes the criminally underrated Lane 8 for some killer house and electronic vibes. Glasslands could be the most fun dancefloor in New York this weekend.

Marcos Carnivale, Danny Marano, Rick Wonder and Mario Calegari @ Cielo

It’s a tribal beach party at Cielo. Summer is closing out, so combine two of your favorite things of the summer into one night. Beach attire is strongly recommended. Respect and gross looks to anyone rolling up there in a Speedo and goggles.

BangOn! NYC presents Short Shorts 3: From Dusk ’til Dawn @ Secret Brooklyn Location TBA

Head’s up, BangOn! might not be for everyone. If you’re more burner than big room, you’ll probably be down for this. Known for marathon nights of dancing — ending in the occasional pants off dance off — BangOn! is one of New York’s best underground parties. Your body may hate you, but stay til the very end to hear the always incredible Golden Pony close it out as the sun comes up in BK.

Sunday, August 17

Sundays on The Roof with Discern, Silky & Signal Flow @ Output

2 p.m. is the kick-off for some solid house beats at Output. House might not be the best choice for those of you that may be tired or hungover (drink responsibly), but for those of you good to go head to the roof. Summer isn’t going to be around much longer. Enjoy the roof views while we can, New Yorkers.

Été D’amour Loves No Regular Play & Justin Miller @ Le Bain

Some trippy funk, some tech, some house. Sounds like a good Sunday night. Head to Le Bain to get a little of all of that courtesy of two solid acts. Things start at 2 p.m. and run til 3 a.m. Get ready to crash into your Monday a little hard.

Caude VonstrokeJustin MartinKill Frenzy @ Verboten

Almost the pick of the weekend, this trio are going to be one hell of a time. Focusing in on just one would unfair to the others. If you don’t know them, get a sample of señor VonStroke’s (that’s what I never call him) dirty beats. Then, check the rest of them out before Sunday gets here.
