New York City Weekend Preview: July 24 to 27, 2014

DJOYbeat Spotlight

Adventure Club @ Governors Beach Club, Saturday, July 26

Governors’ blistering summer series continues on with Montreal’s duo of Christian and Leighton aka Adventure Club. The beach club series has been packed with acts that can blow the hypothetical roof off the place. That should be no problem for these guys. Be ready for tons on electronic music of the big room variety. Adventure Club should throw down a killer set.

The Weekend Rundown

Thursday, July 24

Summer of Love: Pat Mahoney [LCD Soundsystem] + friends @ Verboten

Anything even remotely related to the legendary LCD Soundsystem deserves consideration. If you have Thursday free, get to Verboten. If you know anything about LCD Soundsystem, you should know that this will be a wildly fun and creative kind of night. If you don’t know anything about LCD Soundsystem, brush up.

Gazzo @ Lavo

Lavo is one of the spots for the prog and electro house you desire. Hoboken’s own Gazzo will be doing the honors Thursday night. Be ready for a packed, and possibly ratchet, night on the floor.

Trance.Here.Now. Pres Trance Classics Ronski Speed, Eco @ Cielo

Go to this show if you like good trance. Whenever Eco comes through to Cielo it’s a stellar set. Whether it be chilled or hard trance, Eco knows how to hit the mark. With Germany’s Ronski Speed on the bill, you should be in for a night of sexy trance beats.

Mobile Mondays! with Mayer Hawthorne (DJ Set), Operator Emz, Joey Carvello, Natasha Diggs @ Output

Mayer Hawthorne is one cool dude. Or not so much. Which makes him cool. He makes some funky music and apparently some sexy DJ sets as well. Output once again hosts a cool attack that’s slightly different than the rest of the night. Dig on a night of all 45s. You don’t know when that’ll happen again.

Sharam – first-to-last set @ Marquee

Open to closes are always fun. With Sharam you’re getting a wide range of house, including some sick tech house. With Marquee’s reputation for having one of the best layouts and crowds, Chelsea could be the destination this weekend.

Esscala Rabbit Hole Nights: Giuseppe Ottaviani @ Cielo

Whenever Giuseppe Ottaviani is on at Cielo you should try to be there. The man knows how to play some incredible trance. Get ready to go on the harder side as the Roman DJ will certainly leave you answering “yes” to the question “Are you not entertained?” ::Rim shot::

Spektrum: Oscar L, Brendon Moeller, Lenny Posso and PJay @ Sankeys New York

Sankeys New York offers up some good choices to go for Friday night. Be sure to check out Brendon Moeller. He can throw down a mix a things include dub and old school techno. If you’re looking to mix it up, get to Sankeys.

Capital Cities, Solidisco @ Bounce Boat

Bounce Boat is setting sail with some feel good funk from these two duos. L.A.’s Capital Cities has a slew of poppy hits under their belt, with their newest one “One Minute More” likely to do the same. Solidisco lay funky stuff down whether they’re covering Kanye or doing an original piece of funk. They can make you get low or dance like your parents at a wedding. They’re pretty fun. Oh, and it’ll be on water. Did you enter to win tickets?

Third Party @ Marquee

Speaking of “Bound 2” remixes, London’s Third Party remixes the original hook, Sigma’s “Nobody to Love” for a refreshing big room track. You’ll hear some actual progression in this prog house set. Third Party can go legit deep, but usually will stay on the bigger side of prog house. It should be a good time in Marquee’s settting.

Dark Disco on the Roof with Kenny Larkin, DJ Minx, Contakt, Michael Vieira @ Output

Output follows up all 45s night with tech house from L.A. vet Kenny Larkin. Joining him will be the globe traveling DJ Minx are here solid house mixes. This lady throws down memorable sets. Check. Her. Out.

Cell Injection aka Audio Injection vs Drumcell, Black Asteroid and Deepak Sharma @ Output

Output mixes the weekend up some more with a couple of experimental, tech-ier house sets. If you want good different, Output should be in the consideration for the night. Heads up, you may get a little bit of a mind melt.

Deep: Marques Wyatt @ Cielo

Cielo goes with its bread and butter with the deep and house sets. The house vibe at Cielo is always fun. The crowd can get mixed up, in the good kind of way. It’s almost always a good time.

brite nites feat. EDX @ Webster Hall

Switzerland’s EDX plays a chill but upbeat kind of house that should get you moving. It won’t get wild like a blistering big room or electro house set. It won’t go as deep as going into a Dusky hole but it will at times. It’s the mids, but in a good kind of way.
