If you haven’t heard the name Denis A thrown around in the music scene, you’re not alone, but it’s definitely a name you should look into. The Russian-born DJ/producer has stayed quite underground in the world of mainstream music—and that’s exactly the way he likes it. He has released many of his original productions on his own DAR label, but you’ve almost certainly heard his work played and remixed by names like Robert Babicz, Wally Lopez and Pig&Dan. To those more in touch with the underground scene, the term “DAR Sessions” shouldn’t be foreign. The first Russian DJ to ever hold a residency in Ibiza, he’s played alongside legends such as Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, and Timo Maas, and has captured crowds at events like Germany’s Love Parade and Crimea’s Kazantip festival.
We were delightfully surprised to find out Denis A is finally releasing his debut album—an event we feel has been long overdue from such an impressive talent. Aptly titled Hypnoteric, the work is comprised of nine tracks, each a gorgeous representation of the artist’s current direction. The finished product is a stunning blend of house and techno that takes listeners on a journey through a shadowing and enigmatic wonderland that we’d kill to hear in a dark room on a sound system that would do it justice.
Its absolutely fitting that the mastermind behind it has just been appointed Musical Director for Moscow’s brand new Space nightclub, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this swiftly rising star. Grab the album when it’s released June 16th via Bedrock Records. ★★★★✩
