Hipsters on the look-out for the next big Indie band should flock to Great Scott. This is one of the best small music venues in Boston when it comes to finding new talent. The club is mostly populated by students, artists, and young urban professionals, and you can catch an eclectic mix of music, semi-pricey drinks, and a simple one-room bar with quirky, though minimal, décor.

Of course the focal point is the stage located in the rear of the L-shaped room. You’ll see local artists on early weekdays, and later in the week you can spot larger, nationally known artists. One of the most popular events is Friday’s The Pill, which turns the low-key spot into an indie dance club night that brings together quite a motley crew of stylish hipsters, university students, and club kids. The DJ-tuned music mix ranges from indie to Britpop to cheesy ‘80s tunes.

The bar opens at noon seven day a week, though bands don’t typically go on until at least 8 PM. It’s cash only, and you’ll need your big bills because the drinks aren’t cheap, though regulars are happy to pay a premium for the varied musical selection.
