MatrixFillmore

Located in the north end Marina District, the MatrixFillmore was originally a live music spot catering to some of the great rock bands of the 60’s and 70’s.  After shutting down in 1972, the club was reopened in 2001 as one of the city’s first ultra-lounges.  It currently serves as one of the more upscale EDM dance lounges in San Francisco.

Walking in the most striking feature is the fireplace in the middle of the floor, built with stacked, squared concrete poles, it reaches floor to ceiling providing a nice little lounge area near the dance floor.   Bottle service sections is available, and is the best bet if you want seating throughout the night.  The slightly elevated DJ booth pumps tunes through a JK Sound/EAW sound system.  The décor is elegant, upscale and made up of plenty leather, velvet, dark woods and soft lighting.  A late-70’s, early 80’s style mirrored lounge with a wraparound couch and its own bar are located in the back, past the dance floor.

The crowd is a good, diverse mix of mid-late 20-somethings and early 30’s, lots of yuppie types, tech and financial professionals.  The people are good looking, and the dress is trendy, sexy and stylish.  The vibe is upscale and classy, but still something of a meat market.

Music at the MatrixFillmore ranges depending on the night. Electro and indie pop on Mondays, open format on Wednesdays, fusion/worldbeat type stuff on Thursdays (includes a open invite drum circle), solidly EDM focused Fridays, EDM with some occasional detours on Saturdays, and open format dance music on Sundays.  The decks are manned by solid residents, and a pretty good rotation of well-known locals including San Fran heavyweights Ron Reeser, Tall Sasha and house icon David Harness.
