About Underground SFA good dive bar needs a few qualities. It should be either dark, quiet, and unobtrusive – the sort of place you drown your sorrows by yourself. Or it needs to be loud, obnoxious, kinda sleazy, utterly unpretentious and a lot of fun – the sort of place you bludgeon your sorrows into submission. Underground SF is the latter.
Relatively small, scruffy, and a little worn around the edges, Underground SF relies on atmosphere, and a solid lineup of rotating parties, to draw the crowds in and keep them coming back. The music runs the gamut from the 60’s and 70’s disco of Monday night’s Vienetta party, to the 80’s bubblegum pop classics of the monthly Hella Tight party. Probably the most notable EDM night is Shelter Tuesdays, the longest running drum and bass night in San Francisco, which has played host to some of the UK’s best DnB acts like Ed Rush & Optical, Bizzy B, Loxy, and Ant TC1.
One of the few dance clubs in Haight area, the crowds are a fairly diverse mix, and although it tends to lean towards gay and lesbian crowds, there are plenty of straight people dancing and drinking and carousing.
