Vessel

The two gentlemen who opened Vessel set out to bring a taste of the New York City nightlife to San Francisco.  They even went so far as to import their doorman from NYC.  That sort of attention to detail, along with a truly stellar musical lineup, has quickly made Vessel one of the trendiest, swankiest boutique nightclubs in the city.  The crowds are an upscale mix of celebrities – both the Hollywood kind and the tech & venture capital sort, jet set types and party people. This is high-end, see-and-be-seen, dress to impress territory.

Located in the heart of Union Square, underneath Niketown and Giorgio Armani, Vessel occupies around 5,000 sq. ft., and is an impressive display of interior design, courtesy Stephane Dupoux, responsible for New York’s Buddha Bar and Miami’s Nikki Beach Club. The main room is an elegant mix of historic hardwood floors, exposed brick, brushed metal and polished concrete, offset by minimalist, modern furniture, and some inspired art choices – like the petrified juniper tree in the slightly elevated VIP area, or the Marilyn Monroe portrait – Vessel manages to evoke a pretty luxurious atmosphere.  Banquette seating is available along the wall, flanking the dance floor, and the bar was designed with high volume in mind.  There is also an outdoor smoking area, and plenty of restrooms.

An all LED light show provides the visual fun, and a Funktion One sound system, the new benchmark for nightclub sound systems, provides all the high clarity sound you could ask for.  Which is a good thing, as the list of DJs who make appearances at Vessel is a list of iconic names in the EDM scene: Fedde le Grand, Laidback Luke, Donald Glaude, Mark Farina, Miss Kitten, Sander van Doorn, and Kerri Chandler.  And that’s a small sampling.
