Vybz Kartel Records Behind Bars for “Up To the Crime” with Daytrip

On a hot streak ever since their debut, NYC producer duo Daytrip has taken its listeners on an adventure to Jamaica for their latest single, “Up To The Crime” featuring the rare vocals from the notorious Vybz Kartel. The Jamaican artist/crime lord has recently made tabloids for his conviction of murder, resulting in a lifelong prison sentence. But that hasn’t seemed to stop the dancehall vocalist. Vybz is rumored to be recording in prison, comfortably from his very own in-cell studio, proving to his fans and the Jamaican government that nothing could get in the way of his first and foremost role as a musician (apparently not even murder).

Daytrip’s, “Flight 43” first caught our interest back in March with its unique electronic sounds and powerful hip-hop production. “Up To The Crime” is Daytrip’s second release made in Jamaica following their single “Drop It” featuring fellow Jamaican 77 Klash, rising rap prince Lil Silk, and mysterious newcomer Yung Burrakami. Both tracks are based in the sounds of Caribbean dancehall, laced with modern hip-hop influences to pop in the urban music scene.  Jamaica is only the first stop of many on this duo’s global adventure; make sure you check out their blog takeadaytrip.tumblr.com for photos detailing their travels, and future releases.
