Cameo is a fitting name for nightclub that is almost hosted by a much larger restaurant. That doesn’t say the spot doesn’t deliver on its own merits though. There are great vaulted ceilings with a funky electric chandelier hanging down to take center stage.

The venue is very Williamsburg: intentionally understated in a lot of ways, but in love with a kaleidoscope of musical acts. Brooklyn bands regularly play Cameo as well as local DJs and Producers. The sound is mostly indie rock and electric music, but even comedians regularly take the stage.

Cameo’s ambiance is no frills, aside from the chandelier of course. Walls are black with little lighting shed on them. The stage, also black, has a wood paneled backdrop that gives any performer a feeling reminiscent of the Seventies. Of course this is more than hospitable to many of the stripped down sounds and performance provided.

When you get hungry, the restaurant is stocked with everything from hummus to fish tacos and strawberry pancakes for breakfast.

If you are in the area and like indie music, Cameo is worth checking out. The scene promises no unnecessary frills, but if you’re there to see live music, this might be right up your alley.
